Learn how dynamic golf stretching and flexibility training can enhance your power and distance with all your clubs...
Most golfers know they need to be flexible to make a full backswing with minimal tension. There are two schools of thought in regards to flexibility and stretching exercises. They are critical to your outcome.
To simplify this article, there is "Dynamic Golf Flexibility and Stretching" and "Static Golf Stretching and Flexibility Training". What is the difference, and how can you learn from them?
Dynamic Stretching and Golf Flexibility Exercises
For you to improve your ability to make a full, complete and tension-free backswing you must incorporate dynamic golf flexibility and stretching exercises into your golf training program.
These exercises are dynamic in nature because your golf swing is dynamic. What I mean is the golf swing is one continuous motion from start to finish. In other words dynamic. Therefore, the most appropriate flexibility exercises are movement-oriented.
Most golfers think of flexibility exercises as the "hold for 15-30 seconds" kind, which is called static flexibility training. From the little you've read so far, I hope you can now see how static flexibility exercises won't enhance your golf swing flexibility.
An example of a dynamic golf flexibility stretching exercise would be a lunge with a twist. This is a total body stretch incorporating the lower body and upper body sequentially, similar to your golf swing.
This is just one of many simple and effective golf flexibility and golf stretching exercises you can do to promote an almost perfect golf swing.
Dynamic Golf Strength Exercises
It would be a huge mistake to exclude dynamic golf strength exercises from your program. You see, when you are improving your dynamic ranges of motion in the joint, the muscles, tendons and even ligaments can be overly stretched.
Without incorporating dynamic golf strength exercises into your golf training routine, you are putting your joints at risk of undo stress that can lead to golf related injury.
Just like with the golf swing, your body gets into positions that stretch the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments beyond where they naturally can go. Without optimal strength in those over-extended ranges of motion, the joint and surrounding tissues break down, causing inflammation, irritation and quite possibly pain, and ultimately injury.
An example of a dynamic golf strength exercise would be a golf posture lateral raise with one arm and a single dumbbell. This exercise is very similar to a backswing and even a follow through, but with one arm and a resistance, going through the identical range of motion as your golf swing.
Condensed Dynamic Flexibility
Stretching and Strength Golf Training Program...
The information in this article might give you the impression that this type of golf improvement approach would be time-consuming and exhausting. While you could go "gang-busters" and incorporate a complete and separate dynamic golf flexibility and strength training program; you don't have to.
Most of the golf specific flexibility, stretching and strength exercises I have golfers do are accomplished in just one exercise. What I mean is the movement entails a dynamic and sequential component as well as a strength component.
The advantage of this type of training is you only need a couple of pieces of golf training equipment, like the stability ball, medicine ball, exercise tubing and hand weights (dumbbells).
With the right choice of exercises, you can be doing a total and complete dynamic golf flexibility and strength program with as little as 3-5 exercises. This would take less than 30 minutes out of your day.
Your Best Golf Swing Is Within Your Reach
I hope the information in this article has informed you of how dynamic golf flexibility, stretching and strength exercises can improve your golf swing, prevent golf injuries and maximize your power and ultimately distance.
