Exercise for a golfer can mean different things to many golfers. But the gist of it is... to get your body in better shape "off the course" to play better golf on the course...
Do you aspire to play better golf? Stupid question right? Then my next question would be, "is what your doing right now helping your game?" Has your game improved with your current approach?
If your game has not improved, it is time for a change. Time to take a look at the root cause of your mishits and performance lulls.
Golf Exercise To Play Better
This may not be something you want to hear, but golf exercise is one of the only ways to get your body moving better for your golf swing. It is not hitting more balls or taking more lessons. Doing exercise specific to a golfer will get you there much quicker.
The word "exercise" depicts work, and unfortunately you cannot get around that. Nothing in life is easy. But if you look at it with the end result in mind, you will stay on track and see improvement.
Fit Golfer Has The Edge
If you were paired with a golfer who had been exercising, and had a nice big full backswing with no tension, do you think he would have an advantage?
I realize the short game is critical in scoring, but I am talking about the advantage of more consistent shots, better swing mechanics, and golf endurance to last 18 holes with the same swing.
The fit golfer will also have the edge over an unfit one. That is just a fact. The only "saving-grace" is if an out of shape golfer has an awesome short game and can putt lights out.
Exercise Your Core For Fast Results
If you want to cut-to-the-chase with a golf exercise program, focus on core exercise for golf. The golf swing is a rotation back and a rotation through.
Strengthening your core from a rotational standpoint will give you the quickest and most notable results on the course. You will feel your golf swing get bigger and more powerful with no more effort than before. This will enable you to have better control and more distance.
Golf Stretching
Golf stretching is a critical part of any exercise for a golfer program. Golfers know they need to stretch more. As time goes on, muscles get tighter not looser. The main cause for lack of distance with the older golfer is lack of flexibility.
Flexibility is key to making a full and tension-free backswing, and a complete follow through. If you do not do these you will rob yourself of distance and consistency.
Your Body Dictates Your Outcome
Just remember one thing. Your body swings the club and plays the game, not your equipment. If your body is broken, your game will show it!
