If you want to add power to your golf swing, understand that a golf driver swing requires optimal golf swing flexibility and a full range of body motion...
A golf driver swing has a slightly different address position, but needs to have the same sequence of motion and body position at impact to produce more power and distance off the tee.
Most golfers swing outside their physical capabilities resulting in lost yardage and accuracy.
Golf Swing Flexibility
Have you ever experienced this?
"You know a longer hole is coming up and you feel you've got to hit it a country mile to get there in two, if it's a long par four. You make a bigger than normal backswing and really go at it on the downswing!"
We know what happened next. Most likely, you didn't hit it any farther, and also didn't hit it any straighter.
What you just did was swing beyond what your body was able to do. Your golf swing flexibility was not enough to make that big of swing with minimal tension. This is a common occurrence among amateur golfers who have a lower level of golf swing flexibility.
If you can't get to this position, it doesn't matter how hard you swing, you're still not going to maximize your power and distance with your driver. Trying to get to that position when you body cannot physically get there will only cause muscle tension, which slows clubhead speed.
Golf Stretching Exercises
To improve your golf driver swing, you've got to implement golf stretching exercises that isolate the muscles involved, specifically on your backswing. These muscles include the back of the lead shoulder; the lat muscle of the lead shoulder; and your core rotational muscles.
I have put together golf stretching exercises in all of my golf fitness dvds and golf golf training manual. It is critical you do them on a consistent basis to improve your power with your driver.
Core Golf Strength
Another important aspect to adding power to your golf swing, is not only getting behind the ball; but staying behind the ball at impact to maximize power and distance. This cannot be achieved with an "out-of-shape" body, it's a physically impossibility.
Core golf strength from a rotational standpoint is extremely important if you want real power in your golf swing.
On the downswing, your first move is with the lower body rotating (not sliding). This rotation of the lower body, while the upper body stays back (for only a split second) puts a high demand on your core golf strength.
If your core is weak, this dynamic golf swing move in the downswing is virtually impossible! The end-result is an "over-the-top" move, causing the dread banana ball (slice).
You can try and try to avoid this, but you won't be successful until you strengthen and stretch your core area "off the course". Then and only then will you produce maximum power and distance with your driver.
Rotational Golf Stretching and Golf Strength Exercises
You've got to start working on your core golf strength and flexibility from a rotational standpoint, with a golf weight training and golf stretching routine.
Every exercise and stretch you do should incorporate rotational movements. The primary movement in the golf swing is rotational, so why wouldn't you focus on that in your golf training program?
With this new golf improvement approach, you will be successful this time!
Just remember, hitting thousands of balls with the same body and the same swing won't get you there! You've got to address the physical component to achieve the mechanical efficiency with your driver.
Once you realize this the sky is the limit! You'll soon be the envy of your foursome, with your "new and improved", golf driver swing!
