A golf exercise DVD is just like having your own personal golf trainer right there in your own home. If you don’t like the idea of going to a gym, and prefer to exercise when you are able to, then a DVD could be ideal for you.
Even the pros use them. Not all tour professional golfers can afford to have their own personal trainer with them, and they watch DVDs in their hotel.
That alone gives some indication of how useful they can be, since pros wouldn’t use them if they did no good. Not only are golf instruction DVDs popular, as they have been for quite a while now, but golf fitness DVDs are also gaining in popularity.
Golf Exercise Is Not Aerobic In Nature
It is easy to pop a DVD into the player and follow along with one or two of the exercises as you feel you need them. When people hear about exercise DVDs they immediately think of the 'old school' aerobics and stepping up and down to music.
That’s not what golf specific exercise videos are about at all. The exercises are designed to improve your core rotational strength and flexibility rather than turn you into some Amazon or Hercules that can also run a marathon before breakfast.
A golf exercise video should consist of certain elements in order that you get most benefit from it. It should contain a good selection of stretching exercises designed to stretch those muscles and impart more flexibility into your joints.
This makes it easier to store up power on your backswing using flexible joints, and muscles that can really stretch: power that will be unleashed on your explosive downswing.
The DVD should also contain strengthening exercises for all the muscle that you use in your swing. If it consists of a series of aerobics and weightlifting exercises then forget it. They don’t help your golf game any. If you don’t get a variety of strength and stretch exercises then don’t buy it, or ask for your money back.
An Exercise Video should show the Whole Routine – Not only One Repetition
It should contain a good menu and navigation so that you can access any specific exercise that you want without having to fast forward to the right position. Apart from the exercises themselves, however, the most important aspect of a good golf exercise video is that it takes you through the whole sequence of the exercise.
Too many show you one repetition than instruct you to carry out ten, or twenty repetitions. You then have to stop the DVD player, carry out the exercises, then start up again and hope that you start again where you left off.
There is no excuse for doing that. It is sheer laziness, and the video should go through the whole routine with you following it. You should also be shown how to adapt each routine to suit your own level of fitness and your age. What is suitable for an eighteen year old junior champion is certainly not appropriate for an eighty year old needing to keep supple to continue playing.
Make Sure you have a Good Recognized Golf Instructor
If you are considering purchasing an exercise video, take note of the instructor and check the name out on the internet. Make sure he is well known in the golf-training world, and is not just an ordinary fitness coach.
An exercise DVD for a golfer must be compiled by an instructor that understands the specific requirements of golf exercise. They are different from general exercises in that they should focus on the muscles and the rotational movements that you use when playing the game.
Ordinary fitness training might help your general fitness and let you walk around the golf course without getting tired, but it won’t add anything to your distance.
A good golf exercise DVD is compiled by a recognized golf fitness trainer, goes through every routine from start to finish and allows you to navigate easily between exercises so that you can plan your daily exercise schedule.
If you're tired of playing the same golf...you need a new approach! It's not more lessons...it's not more equipment...it's working on the machine affecting your performance. Strongly consider embarking on an exercise program.
I've put together a set of golf exercise dvds that can be done with hardly any equipment...and the equipment needed is very inexpensive and portable for your home or office.
