The Golf Fitness Channel is not really a TV channel itself, but a section of the Golf Channel. The Golf Channel is an excellent channel for golfers of all standards to watch, not only for its coverage of the important championships and informed commentary, but also for the news and great golf tips you get.
The Golf Fitness Academy, presented by Titleist and hosted by founders Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips, has brought the importance of golf fitness to the attention of the whole nation, and that can only be a good thing.
If there is one criticism it is that the information provided does not seem to be well collated into a comprehensive training schedule. However, a show is presented on most days, and is a good basic introduction to what golf-specific fitness means.
The Exercises Could Be Presented In A More Unified Way
The online videos are fine as far as they go, and although they present only basic introductions and not a unified series of strength and flexibility exercises, they are still useful and easy to understand, although in a somewhat disjointed way.
However, they are supplemented by the fitness shows shown on the channel during the week, although these could perhaps also be improved my means of better continuity between exercises. Many of the routines would be more useful if they could be carried out at home while watching the channel, rather than needing the specialized equipment found in a gym.
The Concept of Golf-Specific Training is Well Presented
However, in saying that, the exercises are golf-specific and not just restricted to the usual weightlifting and treadmill walking. In this respect they are a useful introduction to the concept of golf-specific fitness training, and your next step would be to get your hands on a set of golf fitness DVDs to take through an entire fitness program, showing every repetition of every exercise.
It is much more useful to you to be able to follow a video training session that takes you through the whole sequence, than to keep pausing and restarting the video.
It is important that golf fitness exercise contain elements of both strength and flexibility training. Golf is not all about strength, but also about rotational flexibility.
Sure, if you increase your golf-specific strength levels you will hit the ball harder and therefore longer, but if your body does not maintain a good degree of flexibility, your backswing will be restricted, and your follow through less than it should be. The rotational swing movement will eventually cause a few injuries unless you keep up your flexibility and stretching exercises.
The Useful Golf Pilate Training Can Be Carried Out In The Home Or Office
The Golf Channel does its best to stress fitness, and most of the previous episodes have been archived and are available on the Fitness Academy website in video form.
They cover most aspects of golf fitness, including golf pilates that can be carried out in the home or the office. It is essential to your golf game that you implement some form of golf specific training program that includes the two essential elements of strength and flexibility training.
While the Golf fitness Channel is not perfect in this respect, it provides a good introduction to golf fitness exercises that you can use as the basis of a more comprehensive fitness training program.
This is one of the main reasons I produced my golf
fitness dvds and manual.
