Whether it is a birthday, anniversary, Christmas or some other occasion suitable for bestowing a gift on your favorite golfer, your choices are boundless.
Just walk through the mall or flip through a gift catalog and you will find that there are more doo-dads, instructional material and high-end equipment for golf than for any other recreational sport. So where do you begin in selecting a gift for the golfer in your life?
First, you must know your golfer’s needs. Does she need the newest high tech clubs? New shoes? Gift certificate for pro lessons? Your mission at this point is to cleverly find out what she needs or has been researching.
If it is something she is already in the process of purchasing, keep investigating or get creative on your own. There’s no sense in duplicating the gift for the golfer.
A great way to find out what your golfer wants or needs is to simply listen to or ask her golfing buddies (after swearing them to secrecy, of course). Has she been complaining about having a problem with some aspect of her stroke? Is her bag worn out? Sometimes this is a better way to find the best gift for the golfer than asking outright.
If you haven’t been able to get any good clues for what your golfer might like, consider this: what gift might help your golfer improve her score? Golfers are always seeking to improve and today there are countless books, DVDs and clinics designed to do just that.
As a last resort, make a call or visit the pro shop at the golf course where your golfer regularly plays or is a member. Chances are good, especially if the pro is on a first name basis with your golfer, that he knows just the thing. They might even have discussed it in a conversation recently.
When you find out what she might enjoy receiving it is best to go to a specialty shop rather than a big box sporting goods store. The expert advice you will get is always more than worth the effort and expense. Also, you are more likely to get professional follow up service on the gift for your golfer.
When you finally decide what gift to get for your golfer and purchase it, don’t forget to ask for the gift receipt; you may have gotten the right gift in the wrong color!
