If you have been playing the game of golf for any time now, you realize that one of the most basic yet powerful elements of the game is CONTROL. Today’s golfing tip involves the two kinds of control that are tightly interwoven.
The first kind of control is control of the mind. Golf is an extremely mental game. The focus needed for even the shortest putt is immense. This is because the pressure is on and unless you are playing for the big money (which most of us aren’t!) the pressure comes from your own mind.
And here is where the second kind of control in today’s golfing tip comes into play: control of the body. There are actually two components to body control.
First, the mind controls the body’s actions. Remember the pressure? We can use it to our advantage or let it work against us. The result of that shot is a self fulfilling prophesy.
Assuming the body is physically capable, if you have confidence in your ability to make the shot, it will happen. If you are wishy-washy about it or let eyes peering at you distract you, it is not going to happen.
So develop your self-confidence. You can do it; you are the master of your abilities. While your mind is telling your body that you can do it, do all you can to prepare your body to respond. How can you prepare your body physically?
Weight training and stretching are not difficult. They will improve your game and your overall health. Find a weight routine that is golf specific. That is, the target muscle groups are those of the core, the upper body and the lower body.
Do many reps per set of lower weight. As long as you can do fifteen reps comfortably you are where you need to be. If it is too easy, add some weight. Keep a log and it will keep you on track.
Stretch before and after working out. Always make time to stretch before a game; this is when you need flexibility most. Make full use of today’s golfing tip and there is no telling where your game might go!
