I’ve been getting a few emails from golfers having a hard time rotating (turning) their hips through impact. It’s most likely from a restriction in mobility. I’ve put together a vidoe (see below) with a simple golf stretch which will improve your hip rotation range of motion. You’ll see an increase in swing speed after doing this stretch consistently.

The hip region is a neglected area of the body for most golfers. Especially older golfers who may be battling a little arthritis in that area. My mission is to show you that simple exercises done daily can dramatically improve your golf swing and enjoyment of the game. And you don’t need a lot of equipment or a gym membership to do my golf training.

If you want to learn how to drive a golf ball far, I have a little different twist on it. If you know who I am, or what I do, you’ll know I’m not a big believer in buying the latest, greatest $500 driver to get an extra 5-10 yards on your drives. In fact, don’t waste your money!

Here goes! YOU are the engine to how to drive a golf ball far! If you’re engine is inefficient, your mechanics break down; and the result is poor impact, and a dramatically slower clubhead speed. THIS is WHY you are not happy with your driving distance!

I can bet you right now you know how to swing a golf club. Would you agree? You’ve been swinging a club for years, so why aren’t you hitting long drives that hit the fairway. Do you just need a few more years swinging the club and pounding more balls? Is that the answer?

That’s insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result!

You need to fix what you’ve got. Work on the engine to drive the ball a long way. Lube your joints (nutrition and exercise) to pound that golf ball. If you don’t, the engine will be faulty for many years to come.

Can I ask how your golf season went? Did you see improvement, or where you about the same as the year before? In golf, we all strive to do better, but as statistics our handicaps are not going down. With the off season coming near, it’s time to diagnose our swing inefficiencies and implement a golf swing training program during the winter months, to shoot you into next season with lower scores and longer drives right at the start!

The focus of your winter (off season) golf program should be technique, golf swing strength and flexibility. That combination will dramatically improve your driving distance and even consistency. From now on I want you to think of the golf season as your time to prepare your body for the “next season”, not just a time to put the golf clubs away and forget about golf.

Like all other athletes in EVERY other sport, they all train in the off-season, so why wouldn’t a golfer do the same? It’s common sense to get better, you’ve got to put some “off the course” time in to see the results on the course. Doesn’t that makes sense?

Here’s where a shameless plug comes in

I know you’re time is limited with family obligations, and the holidays, but what if I told you, you could do a simple, easy and fun golf training program “in your home” with just a couple of pieces of very inexpensive exercise equipment in just a couple of minutes a day? Would you be interested? I think you would!

Click on the BIG image below to find out about my INSTANTLY downloadable golf training ebook that has simple golf exercises, easy golf stretches and programs you can do in the comfort of your own home.

I”ve been working on my swing relentlessly for the past week or so. My mishit is a toe shot, and it’s driving me crazy. One of my main issues is my golf swing transition from the top. I guess I would be termed a “hitter” and not a swinger, therefore my upper body (especially arms) are too active when I start back down, causing my swing sequence to be out of order, not allowing me to get to and through impact in the correct positions.

I was really trying too hard with my arms, creating not only tension which slows clubhead speed, but making my upper body more dominant during the initial part of the downswing. This caused a whole host of issues with my swing, that resulted in the above mentioned toe shots, a lack of hip rotation and clearing through impact, a raising up out of my spine angle at impact, and a slight flip of the hands causing an early release through the ball.

With all that being said, I am now initiating my downswing with an emphasis on lower body weight shift/rotation and more importantly PASSIVE arms. I feel like my arms are now along for the ride, as opposed to them dominating my golf swing. This will take me some time to ingrain, but with my commitment to practice, I know I will get this, and have already seen some positive results on the practice range.

So when you are making your golf swing transition, and you want the proper sequence coming down, think passive arms, and a lower body shift/rotation. I think it will help you.

You’ve heard it before. You MUST have a full shoulder turn for maximum clubhead speed, power and distance. I want to briefly explain that a full shoulder turn does not mean your golf club has to get high at the top of your backswing. So many golfers are worried about getting the club shaft parallel to the ground at the top.

This is not so! It’s becoming more common to see the touring pro’s not reach parallel at the top, even with their golf driver. As long as you get a 90 degree shoulder turn with about half that in hip turn, you will have maximum clubhead speed, and better yet, more control over your golf swing.

I want to show you a drill you can do in your home, garage, office and of course on the practice tee.

See the club I have on the ground to the left of my right foot? See the club across my shoulders?. Match those up and you know you’ve made a full shoulder turn on your backswing.

Give it a try!

I have come to the conclusion that the wrists play a critical role in power golf, increasing clubhead speed, and distance. It’s not a very glamorous bodypart, but I do feel this is one of the KEYS to hitting longer golf drives.

Earlier we discussed power golf wrist hinge, and the correct way to do it, and now I want to give you a SIMPLE golf exercise to quickly strengthen your wrists for a powerful impact into that poor golf ball.

Stand erect with your arm at your side hanging long. Hold an 8 iron (I use my weighted golf club) in your hand with the clubhead on the ground. This puts your wrist in the uncocked (unhinged) position. Now, without moving your arm at all, raise the clubhead upward as high as you can, using only your wrist and forearm.

Slowly lower it back down and repeat 15 times. Switch arms and sides, and do 15 with the other arm. If you’re feeling spunky, do a couple of sets each arm. You’ll get a good burn in your forearm muscles.

This movement is identical to the movement of your wrist cock in your golf swing. Doing this simple golf exercise 2-3 times a week, will make a huge difference in your power, with strong wrists through impact.
